Liverpool, in England, United Kingdom, is world famous especially for the Beatles, but it has two other local personalities that do not go unnoticed. The Liver Birds are the birds located at the top of the two large towers of the Royal Liver Building , one of the city's most iconic buildings. The building was erected in 1911 and, being 100 years old, holds stories and an incredible view. It's that same age and that same enchanting and wide view that Liver Birds have, but beyond that, they have some other curiosities that we'll tell you about now! THE BIRDS OF LIVERPOOL 1- How it all started While the Liver Birds atop the Royal Liver Building are 100 years old, the bird's history as a symbol of the city is more than 800 years old. It is believed to have started in 1207, when King John chose a bird to form the unique seal that was needed to register Liverpool as a borough.
In 1797, the bird was incorporated into the city's coat of arms, being associated with the cormorant, as reported by the Liverpool Echo portal . The Guide Liverpool says that the oldest mention of the bird as a representative of the city dates back to 1229, by King Henry III, and that, in 1611, the city's mayor commissioned new silverware with the bird printed on it. 2- They have names! One being male and the other female, their names are Bella and Bertie. The origin of BYB Directory the names, however, is unknown. 3- Everyone looks in one direction!
